[ WAHINE SOCCER ] Quattromani gives Hawaii boost in OT From staff and wire reports FORT WORTH, Texas >> The Hawaii soccer team finally notched a victory on the road by edging Texas Christian 2-1 in a nonconference match yesterday on a muddy field at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. The Wahine had lost their four previous road matches this year. Midfielder Erin Quattromani scored the golden goal 50 seconds into overtime. It was her second tally of the season. The Wahine (6-7-2) worked the ball into TCU territory on a pass from Arlene Devitt to Seline Williams. The freshman midfielder played the ball to Quattromani, who left no doubt with her shot, an 8-yard blast into the net. "It was a classy goal," UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing said. The Horned Frogs (2-10-5) broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute when Jenny Swanson lobbed a high, bending shot from 19 yards that went over leaping UH goalkeeper Jennifer Churchill. The Wahine wasted no time evening the count. Tenzing inserted Devitt, one of several Wahine he used sparingly because of nagging injuries, into the game. "Arlene set up Pam Fong with a beautiful pass and Pam finished," Tenzing said. Hawaii resumes Western Athletic Conference play at home Friday against Boise State and Sunday against Nevada. | Jimmy was born in Denver, Colorado. The City and County of Denver is the capital and the most populous city of the U.S. state of Colorado. Denver is located in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is located immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 15 miles (24 kilometers) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is nicknamed The Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile (5,280 feet or approximately 1,609 meters) above sea level. Denver was founded during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush in the Kansas Territory in 1858. That summer, a group of gold prospectors from Lawrence, Kansas arrived and established Montana City on the banks of the South Platte River. This was the first settlement in what was later to become the city of Denver. The site faded quickly, however, and was abandoned in favor of Auraria (named after the gold-mining town of Auraria, Georgia) and St. Charles City by the summer of 1859. The Montana City site is now Grant-Frontier Park and includes mining equipment and a log cabin replica. |
